Can You Relax in Disney?

Well, it depends how you structure your vacation. Let’s take a step back for a moment. Ten years ago, a very good friend of mine invited us away for a Disney vacation; she was a DVC member, owned in Bay Lake Tower and organized a vacation that my kids still refer to as one of the best they’ve ever had.

We learned about Disney from a completely different perspective and, eight years ago, became DVC members ourselves, buying our points at The Grand Floridian.

Granted, Disney has gone through quite a few changes in the last few years, most recently because of Covid restrictions, but that doesn’t change the fact that a vacation at Disney is still a unique experience and one that would be hard to compare with.

My kids are 20 and 22, in college and they still wanted a family vacation with us. Under any circumstances that works for me!

The hotels in Disney along the monorail are resorts in their own right and could easily be your destination if you just wanted a gorgeous hotel with amenities that can stand comparison with any 5-star hotel. That could be the vacation in itself. Add the park options and your days can be as busy as you want them to be.

For this vacation we allowed ourselves time to enjoy the parks as well as some downtime in the hotel and by the pool. Epcot is my favorite park and, if you’re looking for good food, drink and even a little culture, you can easily enjoy a day or two there.

I should add that, when he travels, my husband rides a mobility scooter. Disney exceeds expectations when it comes to handicap accessibility which is very important when it comes to traveling with scooters, wheelchairs etc. My husband calls Disney the most handicap-friendly place in the world.

I was also hoping that, given the political climate these days and what I’d heard on the news, no one would be made to feel uncomfortable while at Disney. I am happy to say that, based on my experience, if anything, Disney is going above and beyond to treat their visitors with the utmost respect and courtesy.

So, can you relax in Disney? Yes, but the question is will you want to?

And let’s not forget the steps:)

  1. I love Disney and I can’t wait to go there with my grandchildren someday. I have always felt I needed a vacation from a Disney vacation as it’s always non stop and you don’t want to miss anything. It’s all worth it though, thanks for your update.

  2. Hi Sherri!
sounds like your family had a marvelous trip to Disney! I haven’t been there in an age, but we used to stay in the Contemporary and the Polynesian, and the hotels were great. The Grand Floridian looks great! I think you can relax, but like you said, there is so much there – its even more fun to explore! ( the food looks scrumptious!)
    Enjoy your week!

  3. I’ve had the fun experience of visiting Disney in LA and Disney in Paris – both of which were fun – but they were huge day outings in the midst of travelling. It would be wonderful to stay in a hotel nearby and not have to race around trying to see and do everything in one day!
